Weather monitoring SMS alerts
SMS Alert Consent & Opt-In Process
Above the Line Safety LLC deploys portable weather monitoring systems to support operational safety during film, television, and live event productions.
Service description
These systems monitor local weather conditions and may send automated SMS alerts containing safety-related weather information to personnel working at or near the monitored location.
These messages are strictly operational in nature and are intended to support weather awareness and safety decision-making during active production activities. ATLS does not send promotional, advertising, or marketing messages through this system.
Purpose of messages
Recipients who opt in may receive SMS alerts related to weather conditions affecting a specific production location.
- Severe weather alerts
- High wind warnings
- Lightning or storm notifications
- Operational weather updates related to the monitored location
Messages are sent only when relevant weather conditions occur or when operational weather updates are required.
How recipients provide consent
- A production client requests weather monitoring services from ATLS for a specific project or location.
- The production client designates a coordinator or production representative responsible for distributing weather alerts to relevant personnel.
- Personnel who wish to receive weather alerts voluntarily provide their mobile phone number to the production coordinator for this purpose.
- The coordinator compiles the list of phone numbers from individuals who have requested to receive these alerts.
- The coordinator provides those phone numbers to ATLS for the sole purpose of enabling SMS weather notifications.
- ATLS adds the submitted numbers to the SMS alert distribution list associated with that specific weather monitoring deployment.
Only individuals whose phone numbers are voluntarily provided for this purpose receive SMS alerts. Phone numbers are used only for operational weather alerts associated with the specific monitored deployment and are not used for marketing, advertising, or unrelated communications.
Typical recipients
Recipients typically include personnel working at or near the monitored location, such as:
- Production crew members
- Operations staff
- Safety personnel
- Event or broadcast staff
All recipients receive alerts only after their phone number has been voluntarily submitted for this purpose.
Data use and privacy
ATLS collects mobile phone numbers from individuals who voluntarily opt in to receive operational weather alerts related to a specific monitored deployment.
Mobile phone numbers collected for this service are used solely for the purpose of delivering operational weather alerts related to the monitored deployment. ATLS does not maintain a persistent subscriber list for this service.
Contact lists are created for individual deployments and removed when the project concludes. Phone numbers are not used for marketing, advertising, or unrelated communications and are not sold to third parties.
Messaging may be processed by telecommunications providers solely for the purpose of delivering SMS alerts. When a production or project concludes, the associated contact list is removed from the active alert distribution system and is no longer used for messaging. As a backup, contacts that are not associated with an active project and are older than 12 months will be removed.
